Summer 2021 COVID-19 Health & Safety Protocol

Please note, all of the below is subject to change as new information is shared and recommendations change. We will continue to follow the most recent CDC and MN Department of Health recommendations throughout the summer.

Updated 6/1/2021: Kids are expected to have face coverings (masks or gators) and wear them during down time indoors within 6 feet (rest time, reading time, busing during field trips). When kids are outdoors or being active they can choose if they want to wear their masks or not as they will no longer be required. We will be providing gators for every child and encourage them to wear them when not being physically active during sports (and during the above mentioned down time activities). The coaches will have face coverings, but if they are vaccinated they are not required to wear them. If they are not vaccinated they will be expected to wear their masks if they are in close proximity to the kids and other staff members.

We will continue to evaluate as restrictions and recommendations change.

SUMMER 2021 COVID-19 GUIDELINES & PROTOCOL

(As of 4/29/21)

AKA is considered an essential childcare center and therefore can operate through the summer. We are doing our absolute best to comply with the guidelines from the Centers for Disease Control, Department of Health and the Department of Human Services. Below you will find the health and safety procedures we plan to put into place for the 2021 All Sports Summer Camp. These guidelines are subject to change, including adding or eliminating procedures, as recommendations are made by health officials.

SANITATION

  • Temperature checks will be administered as each child enters camp. Staff will be equiped with masks and gloves.

  • Sick children and staff will be required to stay home, specifically persons who have a fever of 100.4 F or above or other signs of illness will not be admitted to the facility.

  • Should staff or participants become sick while at camp, the individuals will be kept separate from well participants and staff until they can leave. There will be designated areas where these individuals can be isolated until their departure.

  • Staff will provide reminders to be careful not to touch eyes, nose, and mouth.

  • Sharing of personal items (such as cell-phones, clothing, water bottles, etc) will not be allowed.

  • Ensuring adequate supplies (e.g., soap, paper towels, hand sanitizer, tissue) are on hand to support healthy hygiene practices.

HEALTH AND ILLNESS

  • Ensuring handwashing strategies include washing with soap and water for at least 20 seconds, especially after going to the bathroom and before & after eating.

  • Implementing a sanitizing station at the entrance and exit to each facility to ensure proper handwashing strategies upon arrival and departure.

  • Routinely cleaning and disinfecting surfaces and objects that are frequently touched.

  • Toys and equipment that cannot be cleaned and sanitized will not be used.

  • Toys or equipment that come into contact with mouths or that are otherwise contaminated by body secretions or excretions will be set aside in a designated area until they are cleaned and disinfected.

  • Use of disposable supplies including ice packs, wipes, gloves, etc.

MASK REQUIREMENTS

  • We will continue to follow the most updated protocol set by the CDC and MN Dept of Health which we expect to be updated throughout the summer.

  • All kids will receive a gaiter style face covering in their backpacks. Kids will be expected to bring their AKA gaiter or some face covering to camp each day. Expectations are to wear them in close quarters, especially during down time.

  • When playing sports, indoors or outdoors, it is expected that kids will do their absolute best to maintain their cover throughout the activities, however we understand the challenges that come with face coverings and physical exercise and play. Kids will have their face covering with them at all times and will be encouraged to make smart decisions with them around others.

  • Staff will be wearing a face covering throughout the summer, especially when indoors and will be guiding the kids to make smart decisions relating to COVID protocol (social distancing when possible, when to wear their masks, washing hands before and after each change of activity, etc.)

SOCIAL DISTANCING

  • Implementing social distancing strategies for spaces and movement through the facilities. This could mean groups of 10 or fewer kids using designated spaces at any given time and staggering the times when kids travel throughout the facilities.

  • Groups will be assigned staff to remain as consistent as possible to limit staff/participant contact.

  • Staggered lunch times to allow for cleaning and increased distance.

  • The drop-off and pick-up processes will be modified and communicated prior to camp to limit the volume of individuals entering the facilities. Potential changes include AKA staff waiting curbside for arrival and pickup. Similar to what many schools currently implement.

  • Whenever possible, activities will be held outside and participants will be encouraged to spread out utilizing visual cues (such as cones or tape lines) to demonstrate physical spacing.
