COVID-19 Impact: All Sports Camp - 4/17/20
AKASPORT Family Communication
Friday, April 17, 2020
Dear Families and Supporters,
We appreciate your patience in this time of great uncertainty and information overload. We maintain our optimism through this all and we wish everyone great health and peace. Stay safe everyone!
As of today, April 17, we have not received any new information; meaning the AKA All Sports Camp and Speed of Play programs will start June 8.
Know that we are keeping close tabs on all updates, shutdowns and important announcements. This situation is extremely fluid, and all of us at AKASPORT shares in your desire for certainty. Before we can go into further detail, we need to a) take a collective deep breath, It’s still the middle of April, and b) keep up with the recommendations from our partner facilities, from the Minnesota Department of Health, Department of Human Services and the State of Minnesota Governor’s office.
We know how important childcare is to your ability to work or attend school, and please know how equally important your children’s safety is to us. We want to continue to provide you with the high standard of care that you expect for this summer, as well as provide as much information as we know at this point in time relative to how we plan to operate this summer.
At this time, we are still planning to operate our active AKA All Sports Summer Camp programs and are more excited than ever to see the smiling faces of your kiddos enter our doors!
We will be implementing additional Health and Safety Practices at the recommendation of the Minnesota Department of Health. Some of these practices may include:
Ensuring hand washing strategies include washing with soap and water for at least 20 seconds, especially after going to the bathroom and before eating.
Ensuring adequate supplies (e.g., soap, paper towels, hand sanitizer, tissue) are on hand to support healthy hygiene practices.
Routinely cleaning and disinfecting surfaces and objects that are frequently touched.
Implementing social distancing strategies for rooms and movement through the facilities and spaces.
Considering regular health checks of children and staff, such as taking temperatures throughout the day.
Staggered lunch times to allow for cleaning and increased distance.
Considering modifying the drop-off and pick-ups to limit the volume of individuals entering the facilities.
Requiring sick children and staff to stay home.
We have made the difficult decision to forgo field trips this summer due to the safety/distancing concerns of busing, field trip locations closing for the summer season and the overall unknown/uncertainty with several of our field trip sites. With that being said, our staff are working to develop creative, energetic and engaging activities on-site. These activities will keep in mind the health and safety practices mentioned above. Here’s a sneak peak of some activities we’re considering: Virtual Field Trips, Olympic style games, sensory activities, movies in the park, scavenger hunts, and gardening. We’d welcome your input too if you have any ideas!
We will be updating the website with additional details and announcements as they are known. As always, feel free to contact us if you have any questions, comments or concerns. We are happy to assist and know that we will take care of you. We are looking forward to a different, but equally as active, safe, and fun summer with your kids!
Again, thank you for your support and patience. We will get through this together! Stay healthy, Stay Safe and Stay Active!
